The Grace of Hospitality: Missions Conference Report
“When you welcome those who have no place , you find your own place in God’s plan for the world” – Al LaCour
That one sentence organized the repentance and faith for the Missions Conference concluded yesterday. God invites us to hospitality as a witness to the place with God that Christ gives to us and as a taste to the
world of what that is like. Hospitality builds up the body of Christ and opens the body of Christ to the world. It just might be our most authentic and powerful life-witness to the delights of God in Jesus Christ.
For an excellent treatment on the subject of hospitality read “Making Room:: Recovering Hospitality as a Christian Tradition” by Christine Pohl. “For most of the history of the church, hospitality was central to Christian identity. Yet our generations knows little of this rich, life-giving practice. In “Making Room”, Christine Pohl revisits the discipline of welcoming strangers and provides the foundation for renewed commitment to recovering hospitality as a Christian tradition.” (from the cover) A study guide for “Making Room” is also available for personal study or for small groups that would like to use the book for a study series.
Are you interested in helping lead a Discovering Christianity Bible study for seekers who sign up at the Will Graham Celebration? Receive training at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Fellowship Hall.
Next Sunday: Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
“Calvin is surely right about the meaning of(the Lord’s Supper): incorporated into one body with Christ, we rest assured that whatever is His is ours. Eternal life can no more be lost by us than by Him; we cannot be condemned by our sins, for He has borne them as though they were His own” ~ Edmund Clowney, The Church.
