Spring Week of Prayer: Day 1

The Belt of Truth

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth" Ephesians 6:10-14a

During this unique season due to the Corona Virus, there is an overwhelming urgency to care for our physical bodies and seek the welfare of our neighbor.  This vivid reminder of our bodily vulnerability reflects our great spiritual dependency.  Beloved, be at peace because our God has promised to grant us all we need for life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3-4).  Christian, dress for battle because our God has established us as soldiers of the cross.  Dr. Iain Duguid notes that the belt was the foundational garment that equipped a soldier to stand, wrestle, and endure in battle.  Read Philippians 4:4-9 and train your mind to ponder truth concerning God and what duty God requires of man (WSC #3).   Recall how our Savior has already worn the belt of truth for you (Isa. 11:5).  May the word of God dwell richly in your heart so that we remember our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (WSC #1).
