Spring Week of Prayer: Day 5

The Helmet of Salvation

"… and take the helmet of salvation …" Ephesians 6:17a
Isaiah describes society as both evil and oppressed in people run to evil and are swift to shed innocent blood (Isa. 59:7).  In this dire situation, the Lord God rescues and redeems His people by putting on a helmet of salvation (Isa. 59:17) as all will fear the name of the LORD from the west; and his glory from the rising sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives (Isa. 59:19).  Because the Lord has worked salvation for us by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, we are to dress in the hope of salvation (1 Thess. 5:8).  The severity of the Lord and the sweetness of the gospel drive us to do three things as the The Children’s Catechism states:

Q. 55. Who will be saved?
A. Only those who repent of sin, believe in Christ, and lead holy lives.

Beloved, ask the Holy Spirit to grant you repentance by being sorry for sin, by hating iniquity, and forsaking all evil because it is displeasing to God.  Christian, pray for our church to communicate the sure hope that we trust in Christ alone for salvation.
